parkinson perfection

Norman Parkinson

Parkinson always maintained he was a craftsman and not an artist. From his early days as a photographer up to his death, he remained one of the foremost British portrait and fashion photographers. His work, following the lead of Munkacsi at Harper's Bazaar, revolutionized the world of British fashion photography in the '40s by bringing his models from the rigid studio environment into a far more dynamic outdoor setting. Humor played a central role in many of his photographs, which often included himself. - Wikipedia

pb picks

Hello there!
I have been totally lagging on posts this week due to the fact that I am learning a new job and my brain on overload. Said brain was lazy going into this week to begin with, after my long holiday and a prior job that was not the most challenging job I've ever had. Needless to say, I was a bit overwhelmed at first, but now I'm feeling a rush of energy - the desire to work! We'll see how long that lasts.
Anywho, Pottery Barn has some excellent new offerings that I just had to share.....

Um, this might be one of the coolest chandeliers EVER! I love the spider-like way that it hangs and the exceptional design. I really, really wish I could have this at my house, but our ceilings are too high...so sad.

Stretched Canvas Artwork
Now this one I can have in my house & I already do! I just love all three of these pieces, but the Eiffel Tower is my favorite. I ordered it last week & it arrived today. It's pretty big, 22 x 36, and very cool in person. Now to decide which wall it will live on...

York Headboard
This headboard is so fabulous and reminds me of a headboard that Jules at Belle Maison designed for one of her model home projects. I love the shape and the contrast of the piping. So dramatic!

the good ol' days

I sound like my parents when I say, "Music isn't what it used to be". But, it's SO TRUE!
My unending quest for good new music usually ends in dire frustration, so I find myself turning back to the good old days and gaining a new appreciation of the favorite bands of my adolescence. At the top of that list is The Cure (of the 80's). I'll never tire of their gloomy lyrics, gothic rock sound and my favorite album, "Staring at the Sea". Brings back memories of listening to "The Lovecats" while my high school goth friend crushed on Robert Smith. Those were the days, no?

friday fun

Are you kidding me?!
Some crazy person decided to make wigs for kitties and sell them here. An absolutely, beyond ridiculous idea, but the photos and descriptions are too funny not to post.

Silver Fox
Silver is all about sophistication. Indoors or out, this wig takes Flash to a special place - where everything is sleek and svelte, young and foxy.
Silver makes your kitty feel sexy and smart, like a cougar on the prowl.

Electric Blue
Blue is edgy and electric. In this wig, Chicken sports some serious attitude - she's thinking saxophones, smoke, and snapping fingers.
Blue gives your kitty a sharp look - jazzy and totally copacetic.

Bashful Blonde
Blonde is a magical mix of bashful and brazen. Fern shows off the many moods of a natural blonde: sweet yet catty, smart yet batty - where life is alluring and coy. Now all she needs is a bikini and a Swedish accent.
Blonde sets off your kitty's eyes and makes your kitty look tan.

Hilarious!

Peru!

Hola!
We returned from a week in Peru early this morning and it was muy fantastico! We had a really great time and experienced so much in a short period of time. We visited Lima, Yucay, Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Cusco, and Machu Picchu. The highlight of the trip was Machu Picchu, but the other places weren't far behind.

I took the above photo in Cusco. These children were dressed up with their llamas so their photos could be taken for money.

Cathedral in the Plaza de Armas in Cusco right before it started to rain. The plaza was extraordinarily beautiful with so much history and spectacular architecture.

Policia on the side of the street in Lima.

Machu Picchu!!
This was an experience of a lifetime! There are no words to describe the beauty and magic of Machu Picchu. We had a guide for the first part of the day who gave us the history of the Inca site and then we spent the afternoon taking it all in on our own. The late afternoon is the best time to go because most of the people clear out and it is so peaceful.

Homeless dogs in Yucay.
There were so many dogs on the streets in Peru, which made me so sad. I wanted to take them all home with me. I'm in the process of researching animal rescue groups in the area so I can donate. So far, the Grupo Caridad seems to be one of the most prominent animal rescue groups in Peru. They have done a lot to help the problem, but there is still a very long way to go. If anyone has any info on rescue groups in Peru, please share!

There were llamas all over Peru, but it was the funniest to see them in Machu Picchu walking among all of the tourists. Here, in this photo, I shared the trail with three llamas. So cute!

I found these three friends (baby goat, cat, and dog) in a doorway in Ollantaytambo. This was the only cat I saw the whole time we were in Peru.

The shopping was fantastic in Peru and the Pisac Market (above) was my favorite spot. I came home with many treasures - bracelets, scarves, change purses, and belts. You are supposed to bargain on everything, so that part was a lot of fun too.

The Sonesta Posada del Inca Hotel in Yucay was so fabulous! It was my favorite hotel of the trip by far, and probably one of my favorites ever. It is a former 18th century colonial-style monastery with the most beautiful architecture and lush grounds.

Each room had a heavy wooden door with a latch lock.

Our room key - metal key on a ring with an engraved room number. Fabulous!

The view from our room.

Bulls walking down the street in front of the Sonesta Posada.

At the hotel bar.

A few of the kids were intrigued by my camera, which I wore around my neck most of the time. This little girl in Ollantaytambo wanted me to take her picture so she could see herself on the screen. She also had me take a picture of her mom and her guinea pigs. She was so excited and happy to see the photos each time.

This was Natalie from Machu Picchu, who also loved my camera. She had me take her photo with her llamas. Then she insisted on taking my camera and snapping my photo with the llamas and my hubby's. I was nervous to hand over my camera, but she put the strap around her neck right away and learned how to focus and review the photos after only a few attempts. So funny!

Overall, Peru was a memorable and wonderful experience!

a book of laughs

If you need a good laugh or just a good read, then definitely pick-up I Was Told There'd Be Cake by Sloane Crosley. A collection of essays full of wit, charm, and honesty by a brilliant young writer. I laughed out loud throughout this book, and could relate to so many of her tales about mid-20s life. More, please!

Needing Hope Sandoval's weeping willow voice right about now.
Halah anyone?

Isn't she beautiful?!
Living in So Cal never seems to stop me from lusting after beautiful coats. Even if I only get to wear them twice a year. So pretty!

As real as it may seem, it was only in my dreams.
