botero

This was my favorite painting from the Bowers Museum exhibit, The Baroque World of Fernando Botero. Although his work doesn't exactly speak to my soul, I found a new appreciation for Botero's vision and perspective through this exhibit.
"Using a broad range of media, the Colombian-born Botero has created a world of his own, one that is at once accessible and enigmatic." - Bowers website

placeholder

I turned in my M by MJ Faridah Hobo today (sniff, sniff), but failed to find its permanent replacement. After hours of online research and several hours spent trying on bag after bag at Nordies, my perfect friend has yet to be found.
But, I did succeed in finding a perfectly suitable placeholder until "the one" comes along. This adorable JPK satchel is adorned with a heavy gold tag, which reads, "Distinctive styling. Born in France. Handcrafted in the East. Travels well in faraway places. A faithful companion to have always." Exactly what I was looking for. She comes in a variety of different colors, I opted for the slate blue.
I think she's perfect, even though the sales woman who was trying to sell me the $2,000 YSL bag said she looks like a lunch tote. Maybe, but a delicious one at that.

bsg

I'm in Ojai this week for work, but wishing I was home with the hubby watching episode after episode of Battlestar Galactica, our latest obsession. A bit late on the bandwagon, but we're officially hooked.

Although I'd rather be home, this is what my room looks like at the Ojai Valley Inn. Not too shabby of a setting, if I must be gone. It's gorgeous here.

weekend fun

Hope you all had a wonderful long weekend!
I can't say I'm actually ready to go back to work tomorrow, but what a difference that extra day makes!
Some highlights...

5 year wedding anniversary celebration at our favorite Italian restaurant, Antonello!
I wore one of my latest Etsy purchases, a vintage 60s mod Scooter Dress from Spun Sugar Vintage along with this Anthro necklace and my killer J&D platforms.

We discovered a fantastic new Japanese store called Tokyo Lifestyle, which offers so many great treasures! I went home with only a few small tokens this time, including a Totoro notebook for my desk and goodies for my niece, but I have my eye on a wooden kimono doll for the next trip.

We played dominoes until the wee hours of the night at my mum's on Sunday night. Good old fashioned family fun!

My plumeria started blooming for the first time in 2 years! She looks so pretty & smells heavenly.

I did some work on our balconies and finally finished the front balcony re-do. Here is our sunshine delight chair, which I found a matching white retro side table for at the C & B outlet.

New cute white pots to use as accents.

steals and deals....nordies

Remember this big Marc by MJ purchase for my 29th last year?Marc by Marc Jacobs Totally Turnlock Faridah

Well, he's turned out to be a very reliable friend to have at my side and I do love him so. But, sadly, he has been looking a bit bedraggled lately with loose threads, discoloration, and in need of a good polish. So, I took him over to my friendly neighborhood Nordstrom for some advice on how to get him looking back to his best. What I found was not only excellent customer service, but the deal of a lifetime.
Apparently MJ does not repair bags as most other designers do, so Nordies offers a completely new bag at the same value as the original purchase price instead. That's right, I can turn in my bag that I have used for the last year and a half and walk away with a brand spanking new bag from any designer that they carry! Kind of unbelievable, right?
I was virtually in shock after learning about this fantastic opportunity, and wasn't prepared at all to pick-out something new right then. A purchase like this takes a lot of thought (even if it is free) and I will have to say my proper goodbyes to my old friend as the search for a new one begins....Marc by MJ Classic Q Aidan Satchel

September 5, 2004 - Long Beach Museum of Art

LIV
by Pablo Neruda

Luminous mind, bright devil
of absolute clusterings, of the upright noon -
here we are at last, alone, without loneliness,
far from the savage city's delirium.

Just as a pure line describes the dove's curve,
as the fire honors and nourishes peace,
so you and I made this heavenly outcome.
The mind and love live naked in this house.

Furious dreams, rivers of bitter certainty,
decisions harder than the dreams of a hammer
flowed into the lovers' double cup,

until those twins were lifted into balance
on the scale: the mind and love, like two wings.
- So this transparency was built.

Happy 5th anniversary, my love.

barbed wire and bedclothes

Confessions of the Oak Tree
by Alice Pettway

I would shed my leaves in an instant,
if I could shake their delicate skeletons

off my frame, those brittle reminders
of last season's small failures.

I want to be bare and unencumbered.
Strip me naked; my rough bark

no longer shames me the way it used to.
Leave smooth skin to the saplings,

tender and thin, yet to survive
the droughts and floods I have weathered.

Sheath me in gnarled knobs and dimples,
a woody armor thick enough

to protect the sap I used to spill
at the peck of every careless bird.

A small peek into Alice's superb chapbook,
Barbed Wire and Bedclothes.
Bravo!

red prize

Since purchasing my prized black patent pair of Joan & David Flipp Platforms earlier this year, I've become a HUGE fan of J & D. The Flipps are a high-quality, magnificent treasure and well worth the price tag. I can't help but ooh and aah over them every time I take them out of their box. Which is why my heart skipped a beat when I found this fantastic marbled red version. I had to have them immediately.
They certainly don't make 'em like this anymore.
